016 Atlanta Library and Museum board member Bill Thomas welcomes guests to the initial showing of the Smithsonian Museum on Main Street exhibit “Crossroads: Change in Rural America” and the Atlanta Museum companion exhibit “Classrooms and Community: Changes in Rural America’s Sense of Community.”

The unveiling of the mural “Prairie Pathways” by artist Regan King creates a spectacular history of Atlanta in the first floor Welcome Center of the museum. The mural wraps around the wall at the right, and continues on, telling the story of Atlanta.

King, received countless accolades from the Atlanta residents who worked with her to create the spectacular mural. Cathy Maciariello reached out to a friend in Bloomington with a recommendation for an artist to create a mural, and Regan was immediately selected, no need to look further. The combination of Regan’s artistry, imagination, and understanding of the soul of Atlanta is evident in the painting.

Regan and her brother Peyton hail from Normal.

An art exhibit by Atlanta residents and Olympia students speaks to the community spirit in Atlanta.
