The old wives tale says if it rains on Easter Sunday there will be rain for seven Sundays. But what if it snows? Let's hope the proverb applies only to rain! This year Easter Sunday and April Fools Day fell on the same day, which we choose to believe gave Mother Nature a brilliant opportunity to play a little trick on all of us. And, the biggest irony of all may be that in Lincoln and Logan County at least the Sunday snow is among the biggest snow we’ve had all season.

The Lady Railers played in the 5th Annual Lady Raider Soccer Classic in East Peoria this past week and walked away tournament champs!

 

April 7

Everyone is waiting for the real Spring to begin. Last Sunday, April 1st, was a real fooler with one of the heaviest snows of the entire season blanketing central Illinois with four to eight inches unexpectedly in a
matter of a few hours. Snow has entered the forecast as a possibility again for this Sunday, though this time perhaps it will be just a dusting. Follow the National Weather Service for updates https://www.weather.gov/ilx/

April 10

At tonight's Committee of the Whole meeting of the Lincoln City Council, aldermen will review what could be the final draft of an agreement between the city and the Logan County Tourism Bureau for the lease of the Lincoln Depot. The Tourism Bureau Board reviewed and approved the draft at their March meeting. If the draft meets the approval of the council, the lease agreement will be placed on the voting agenda for next Monday, and the Bureau will take possession of the Depot on May 1st.

The bureau will use the former ticket and telegraph office as administrative offices with the remainder of the building being established as a visitors center. The Bureau plans to utilize the public areas of the building to promote tourism throughout Logan County.

April 13

Another wonderful sign of spring, the Eagle is nesting. This lady was spotted just off Interstate 55 near the Cracker Barrel in Lincoln by Bob Elshoff of Crawford, Murphy and Tilly Engineers. Elshoff is well-acquainted with LDN photographer/ reporter Curtis Fox and gave Fox a call. Fox in response visited the sight and was just lucky enough to be there when the eagle was tending the nest. A second, empty nest was also spotted just to the north on I-155 near the Hartsburg exit.

Kudos to Elshoff and Fox both for their "eagle eye" in spotting the nest and the beautiful bird.

April 17

On Monday volunteers were celebrated at St. Clara's Rehab and Senior Care. Guests enjoyed a salad bar lunch and tasty strawberry shortcake for dessert.

At the end of the program, Karen Birnbaum was named as the St. Clara's Volunteer of the year. She was presented a plaque and gift by St. Clara's Activity Director Rebecca Johnson.

April 18

The Lincoln College Men’s Volleyball A team completed their season-long mission on Saturday by winning the 2018 National Club Volleyball Federation (NCVF) DII National Championship. The Lynx came into the 48-team event looking to improve upon their 5th place finish a year ago at the 2017 National Championship in Kansas City. This time around, LC went a perfect 9-0 in the tournament and defeated the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in a thrilling, three-set title match to claim the program’s first National Championship in just its fourth year of existence.

April 20

Lincoln College President Dr. David Gerlach holds the recently won Lynx Men's Volleyball 2018 National Club Volleyball Federation (NCVF) DII National Championship trophy on Wednesday afternoon at the Lincoln College "Game On" Rally.

The rally was held to officially announce the college will transition from a two-year college athletic association to a four-year association - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, beginning this coming fall.

The Lynx volleyball championship was an "icing on the cake" moment for LC athletes as they depart from the two-year format and embark on a new level of athletics.

Friends, family, customers, local officials, and other dignitaries surround Nicole Cox and Ethan Hoinacki on Friday afternoon as the partners celebrated the grand opening of Guest House Coffee & Pastries with a ribbon cut.
