On a warmer than warm Sunday afternoon, the National Railsplitting competition took place at the Abraham Lincoln National Railsplitting Festival in Lincoln. After the hot and sweaty competition, the guys took time for a group photo with Abraham Lincoln. This year there were some familiar faces among the winners.

Left to right are Lincoln, fourth place finisher Evan Coombs, second place finisher Jonathon Norin, third place finisher Curtis Prochnow and the big winner, placing first this year was Chris Friedlein.

The Mount Pulaski Bruins win Regional Championship for the first time in 14 years. This victory was a long time coming. Putting how long it's been into perspective, according to one of the Bruin moms, there is not a single Bruin player who was born the last time Mount Pulaski won a junior high regional.

September 19

University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalist Jim Struebing and Logan County promoter David Doolin display a sign from their Kickapoo Creek Park project. The pair has designed and installed signs that map 27 significant points of interest in the park that allow visitors to use their cell phones to access detailed information about each feature.

September 22

Lincoln College has announced long-term plans to go solar on the campus. A solar energy generation system is being planned with installation to take place near the college's baseball and soccer fields. The project is part of a new renewable energy service agreement between Lincoln College and Clean Energy Design Group, Inc.

LC's Mark Gordon said the photo "is only a sample of the type of panels that would be installed and shows a more extensive installation than what is likely to be installed at Lincoln College." The project will likely begin in 2019.

At five years old, Norah Burgard is already working to do good things in her community. Last weekend during the Mount Pulaski Fall Festival, Norah with help from her parents, raised sold lemonade. The funds she raised where added to past funds raised and she used that money to purchase supplies including food and toys for the animals at the Humane Society of Logan County.

Norah, her little sister Morgan, and her parents made a trip to Wal-Mart to purchase supplies with the money she had raised and on Wednesday, Norah happily delivered her donation to the HSLC.

Good job Norah! You serve as a good example to all of us!

The 2018 Mount Pulaski Honeybears Junior High Softball Team experienced a great deal of success in their first school season in almost a decade.

September 27

The Mount Pulaski volleyball community has a long history of helping others with the annual "Volley for the Cure" or in this case, "The Volley for the Cause" that took place on Tuesday night. The Lady Toppers, along with the MPHS soccer team and legions of supporters, pulled together and raised a record-setting $10,125 for two students who lost their mother over the summer. The Lady Toppers along with their game night rivals the Springfield Lutheran Crusaders, who also contributed to the fundraiser.
