A fire broke out in trailer 81 in the Tremont Street Trailer Park at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Monday afternoon. The Lincoln Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire, which started in a bedroom. The one resident was awakened by a smoke detector and was able to escape with minor injuries.

Monday evening Lincoln Fire Chief Mark Miller said that the fire was caused by smoking materials in the bedroom. He noted that the trailer was gutted by the fire and will probably be reported as a total loss.

Later in the evening, Miller spoke to the Lincoln City Council about the fire and said that it was the smoke detector that saved the occupant's life. He said it served as a good reminder of the value of smoke detectors and for the public wanted to be sure and remind everyone to have working smoke detectors in their homes.
