[January 08, 2019]  The Chicago White Sox and reliever Kelvin Herrera agreed to a two-year, $18 million contract on Monday, according to multiple reports.

The deal reportedly includes an option for 2021 that is activated if the right-hander makes 110 appearances over the next two seasons.

Herrera figures to become Chicago's closer. He was a two-time All-Star with the Kansas City Royals.

The 29-year-old Herrera split 2018 with Kansas City and the Washington Nationals, but his season ended in August after injuring his left foot and undergoing season-ending surgery.

Herrera was 1-1 with a 1.05 ERA and 14 saves in 27 appearances for the Royals before being traded. He went 1-2 with a 4.34 ERA and three saves in 21 appearances for the Nationals before getting hurt.

Overall, Herrera is 24-29 with a 2.82 ERA and 60 saves in eight seasons. He recorded a career-best 26 saves in 2017.
