Registration is open to the community for a Youth Mental Health
First Aid training at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital. The course
will take place from 8am to 4:30pm on July 31.
Mental Health First Aid is an interactive, 8-hour certification
course that presents an overview of mental illness and substance use
disorders in the U.S. The training introduces participants to the
risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds
understanding of their impact and overviews common treatments. This
Youth Mental Health First Aid course will focus on how to help 12-18
year olds who are experiencing mental health or addiction
challenges.
Those who take the 8-hour course to certify as Mental Health First
Aiders will learn a 5-step action plan encompassing the skills,
resources and knowledge to help an individual in crisis connect with
appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
