Monday, July 8, 2019 was the first day of demolition of the old part of Mount Pulaski High School located at 206 South Spring Street in Mount Pulaski. Core Construction of Morton, Illinois is in charge of the project and crews arrived on site with two excavators Monday morning.

The crews began on the west side of the building and headed east inside the fence that was put up alongside Cooke Street.

Before noon word spread around town that the demolition had begun and a small crowd gathered to video the falling bricks. Throughout the day the excavators worked diligently and before long the entire old gymnasium and girls locker room was dismantled. The wrecking crew also made ruins of the old cafeteria and upstairs classrooms on Monday.

By early evening the high hoes were parked, the workers headed home and the bystanders came to the conclusion that the demolition would not take too long to complete.

The Main Office still stands and old classrooms where the Spanish and Social Studies teachers once held classes still remain, but they are next in line for demolition.

Temporary classrooms have also been transported to the high school parking lot as students will have classes there during the 2019-2020 school year while the new addition is being constructed.

The project is expected to be completed by the fall of 2020.
