First Presbyterian Calendar for July

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 301 Pekin Street, Lincoln

DRUMMING CIRCLE

The Center for Creativity & Community will be hosting a drumming circle facilitated by Tiffany McBride on Sunday, July 28th, at 2–3:00 PM. It is free and open to the public. A drum circle is a group of people gathered together to play percussion instruments in an informal and collaborative setting. According to McBride, the purpose is to build community, create harmony, and celebrate life through rhythm and music. It is empowering, playful, and relaxing. People of all ages are invited to come and share their rhythmical spirit. No musical experience is necessary. Participants are encouraged to bring a drum or percussion instrument if available. And if not, a simple pan, bucket, or even two sticks make good rhythm instruments. People are also welcome to just come and listen.

McBride has been singing and beating since she was a toddler and is well versed in vocals, ukulele, drums and percussion. She is a group facilitator of drumming circles and expressive arts, and is a clinical psychologist with a private practice in Bloomington, IL.

The Center, sponsored by First Presbyterian Church of Lincoln, is located at 301 Pekin Street. It opened this year with a free summer youth program for 6th to 8th graders. Its purpose is to provide a place for youth to be themselves, explore their creativity, and strengthen their connection within and with others. The program is Tuesdays thru Thursdays, 12:30-5:00 PM, until August 1st. Youth are welcome to join at any time. For inquiries please email fpcyouth@preslincoln.org or call (217)732-6141.

SUMMER CONCERT IN SAN JOSE

The featured gospel singing duo “ANTICIPATION” will be performing inspirational music on Sunday, July 28, 2019, at 6:00 pm at the San Jose United Methodist Church fellowship hall, 600 S First Street, San Jose, IL 62682. The festivities begin at 5:00 pm with free food and activities for the children. The free concert will begin at 6:00 pm, everyone is welcome.

Please join us for an evening of fellowship and music. ‘Anticipation’ originally began as a Himmel family quartet; featuring father, son and two grandsons. As time has marched on the baton has been passed on to Chris Himmel and his wife, Erica and their son, Graham. The family originated in the Manito area and are very busy singing around the country. They are new to this concert series and gives us an opportunity to experience a young family singing group.

This summer concert series is sponsored by the San Jose Christian Church, San Jose United Methodist Church and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, July 28, 2019. This is an indoor, air-conditioned concert.

WHAT MAKES US WHO WE ARE?:

AN ECUMENICAL CONVERSATION

What happens when a Roman Catholic Priest, an Episcopalian priest, a United Church of Christ pastor, and a Presbyterian pastor get together? We aren't sure either, but we're going to find out, and you're invited, too!

As a way to get to know better our neighbors, the clergy of the First Presbyterian Church (USA), the Holy Family Catholic Church, the St. John United Church of Christ, and the Trinity Episcopal Church invite you to attend a four-part conversation in community. The title of this series will be: "What Makes Us Who We Are?"

While it is easy to recognize all the ways we are different, these conversations aim to help us discover all the ways we are already similar and share common interests and characteristics. This will be a time of learning and laughter, and each discussion will conclude with light refreshments - a feature sure to be the first thing that binds us in common.

The dates for these lively (and informative) conversations will be:

WEDNESDAY, JULY 10TH

Trinity Episcopal Church

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 14TH

Holy Family Catholic Church

Each conversation begins at 7:00 pm and is free to everyone.

GOOD NEWS

50th YEAR  REUNION & CONCERT

MAY 23-24, 2020!

Calling all GOOD NEWS alumni and sponsors! We are so excited to announce the 50th year of GOOD NEWS will be celebrated with a reunion and concert, May 23–24, 2020! We will rehearse on
Saturday and Sunday afternoon, with the big reunion concert at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 24 (Memorial Day weekend) at Lincoln Christian University. Mark your calendar now! We will bring
back as many of the former GOOD NEWS directors as possible. The Reunion Choir will sing a favorite song from each decade as well as hear from the current Good News and T.R.A.S.H. This will be a blast! Please plan to join us!

GOOD NEWS PUBLISHING COMPANY began in 1971. Created from the Youth Choir of Lincoln Christian Church, Keith Davenport added the dimension of touring with the “Good News” of Jesus. There have been close to 1,000 students who have been in GOOD NEWS over the last 50 years, (we are still counting!) with hundreds of dedicated sponsors who have traveled with our students.

GOOD NEWS has shared the Good News of Jesus Christ in concerts in 43 states and Canada. On our 2019 tour next week we add #41 (Utah), #42 (Montana) and #43 (North Dakota).

GOOD NEWS alumni and sponsors (and parents!), we have created several ways for you to stay in contact to receive all of the information about the Reunion Concert.

To update your contact information, register for the Reunion Concert, send e-invites to fellow GOOD NEWSers, share photos (we need your photos, especially the formal group shots), videos, and stories, and once you have registered to sing in the Reunion Concert, receive a link to download the concert music, go to: www.lincolnchristianchurch.org/GN50 , Check social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) with #GoodNews50, email us at GN50@lincolnchristianchurch.org.

Join us in May 2020 to celebrate the legacy and continued ministry of GOOD NEWS! We can’t wait to see all of you gathered together to once again proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ in song!
