[June 03, 2019]  The Oasis hosted a Craft and Vendor Fair in the beautiful Scully Park as part of the “Up in the Smoke on the Square” events this weekend.

This year there were 51 vendors. Oasis director Nancy Cunningham, who helped organize the craft and vendor fair, said 56 were signed up but a few did not come because of weather reports. Cunningham was grateful that the rain and storms did not develop though they took down everything an hour early due to gray skies.

Cunningham said there were many new vendors; however, there were also many who were regulars that had participated in past Balloon Fest Craft Fairs and had heard about Up in Smoke.

Word is getting out about the crafts, vendors and upcoming Family Fun Day in the park. Cunningham was pleased at the numbers of crafters for the second year of revitalizing a craft fair in the park.

Among vendors were a church youth group selling plants, three of the Oasis members and family members who set up booths to share their wares. Cunningham said, One Busby Bee’s came from Minnesota. Her mother Judy Busby served on Oasis Board.

Kim Hatfield was a vendor who had attended LCU many years ago and had not been back to Lincoln for many years. Hatfield said she had a super fun time.

Scrubby Girlz was another vendor selling scrubbers, dusters, and Swiffer covers and they said their sales were good.

Several comments were made regarding not having many vendors and Cunningham said, “I think people were expecting the 100 plus vendors that the Balloon fest used to have. We are trying to rebuild that craft fair, but it takes time to rebuild. We will get there as each year passes.”

Besides the vendors, there were other activities at the park; Brady Realtors sponsored the Mobile Petting Zoo, which was a free activity for children. It is always a great hit among attendees both young and old.

Montie Denny from All About Fun Inflatables provided hours of bouncy fun at reduced arm band prices.

Cunningham said, KONA Ice was new this year. The shaved ice was a hit on the warm day! What many may not know is KONA has a give back program. They will donate a percentage of sales to the Oasis.

The vendor and craft fair provided several activities for the whole family to enjoy.
