[June 03, 2019]  That aromatic smell of smoke on the square and chowing down on some spicy BBQ, builds a thirst. Some folks think that a good cold beer is the just the thing to quench that thirst.

So a few years after the Up in Smoke on the Square began, savvy young business owners decided the addition of craft beers would make a good pairing.

Rounding out the weekend, the Young Professionals Network offered thirst relief at the fifth annual Swigs Festival.

Five special chosen brews were on tap from the draft wagon with an additional nine breweries and three wineries offering sampling on both Friday and Saturday evenings in the Beer and Wine Garden.

Entertainments included live music by Lesleigh Bennett, Jack Dupp and the Empty Bottles, The Wasted Tables: VOL II, and Tennessee Borderline.

There were also bags tournaments and homebrew beer competitions.

Winners of the craft beer, homebrew and wine competitions:

Best beer - Limerick Brewery’s Peach Out Kolsch

Best Brewery - White Oak Brewing

Best Winery and Wine came from West of Wise Winery - Tina’s Red Sangria

Homebrew winners:

Adam Fricke
1st in Miscellaneous for his Corn Ale.

Maggie Hazelrigg won in two categories: Wheat for her Belgium Blonde and in IPAs for her New England IPA.

Brent Sperry in Stout/Porters for his Russian Imperial Stout. This beer was the overall Best in Show as well.

No beers were entered in the Pilsner or Amber Categories this Year.

Tons of work was poured out by many hometown proud individuals to make this special weekend a spectacular event.

Numerous local businesses invested in the festival because they believe in our town and want to give for all to enjoy a moment in time.

We recognize and appreciate what they do and offer a huge thank you to all those great minded people.
