LINCOLN
Aprons Away: Women's Work on the Mother Road, a new stage play by
Route 66 author- historian Cheryl Eichar Jett, will be presented in
two performances Saturday-Sunday, June 22- 23, at the Eagle
Performing Arts and Conference Center in Pontiac, Illinois. The
Route 66 Association of Illinois, along with Pontiac Tourism, is
sponsoring the event to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Route
66 Hall of Fame and Museum in Pontiac. “It's the perfect
partnership,” Liz Vincent, Eagle Facility Manager said, “We're
excited to bring this show to Pontiac to commemorate the opening 15
years ago of the Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum.”
Aprons Away tells the stories of the work, careers, and
contributions of women along the most famous highway in the world.
Narrative monologues performed by an ensemble cast tell a new
version of the Route 66 story you'll never forget. Vintage photos on
the big screen provide the backgrounds for entrepreneurs, designers,
restaurant and motel operators, and other notable women.

The all- female cast features actors from Pontiac as well as from the Metro St.
Louis area, with Jett directing the production.
The newly-renovated Eagle Performing Arts and Conference Center first opened in
December 1939 as a movie house. Its first film showing was The Wizard of Oz.
After many successful years as a movie theater, it was home to an indoor
paintball range as well as an indoor skateboard park. When the City of Pontiac
purchased the building, they accepted proposals for what to do with it. A local
theatre troupe proposed the idea of a dinner theatre, and the Eagle Performing
Arts and Conference Center was born!
There is no admission charge, but reservations are required. Reserve your
ticket(s) at www.PontiacEagle.com or call (815) 844-1187.
