Statement from the Illinois Chamber of Commerce regarding recreational cannabis legislation

“While the Chamber has questioned whether this is the right direction for Illinois, we remained engaged in constructive dialogue with the administration, sponsors and legislators throughout the process," said Illinois Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Todd Maisch.

"We believe the bill Governor Pritzker signed today, includes the strongest workplace protections in the nation, and maintains sturdy local control over zoning. We appreciate the cooperation and understanding of the importance of workplace protections for employers, employees and the public, especially by Senators Steans and Barickman and Representatives Cassidy and Welter.

We believe these measures will empower our businesses and local communities to decide what is best for them throughout the implementation process, and we will be vigilant in maintaining those protections going forward."
