Fulton County Deputy Sheriff
killed in shooting Tuesday

At approximately 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Illinois State Police
officers responded to a battery and disturbance call in Avon,
Illinois (Fulton County) involving the Fulton County Sheriff’s
Office. Preliminary information indicates a Fulton County Deputy was
shot.
As of 9 p.m. Tuesday night, the suspect involved was barricaded in
rural Avon, and multiple police departments are on scene assisting
with the ongoing situation.
At that same time, the ISP released a statement from the Fulton
County Sheriff's office indicating that Deputy Troy Chisum had been
fatally wounded in the altercation.

MESSAGE FROM FULTON COUNTY SHERIFF JEFF STANDARD
Today, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Fulton County Sheriff’s Deputy
Troy Chisum, 39 years of age, responded to a battery and disturbance
call in Avon, IL.

During the incident, multiple shots were fired and Deputy Chisum was
fatally injured as a result.
Deputy Chisum was a four and a half year veteran of the Fulton
County Sheriff’s Office. He was a paramedic with the Fulton County
EMA, was a member of the West Central Special Response Team, and the
ILEAS WMD/SRT Team, Region 6. “On behalf of the Fulton County
Sheriff’s Office, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to
the family and friends of Deputy Chisum.
Deputy Chisum dedicated his life to the service of his community.
His legacy and sacrifice will forever be remembered.”
