[March 02, 2019]  LINCOLN - It is going to be very cold during this week, but severe weather could be right around the corner.

This past November was extremely cold and snowy, but then it was followed by the 3rd largest tornado outbreak in Illinois history on December 1st!

Please note that this year, the National Weather Service will NOT be doing a Statewide Tornado Drill with an actual Test Tornado Warning. Instead, we will be testing NOAA Weather Alert Radios on Tuesday, March 5th at 10:00 am CST - in conjunction with the testing of outdoor warning sirens that many communities do on the first Tuesday of the month.

This test will be received by weather alert radios and the EAS by use of the "Routine Weekly Test" product.

In addition, please see our Severe Weather Safety web page at :
https://www.weather.gov/ilx/severe-prep  for numerous tornado, severe storm, flooding and lightning safety tips.

Also, be sure to review the Severe Weather Fact Sheet for 2019.
