Over the February
23rd weekend, three Logan County students were shooting hoops in
individual contests for best in state free throw. Tori Geriets, Mia
Clark and Landen Heinzel participated in Elks Hoop Shoot State Free
Throw Contest.
Elk’s mission statement for Hoops Shoot: “Through the Hoop Shoot
program, the Elks have been developing and reinforcing grit for more
than 46 years—long before researchers and experts concluded that
grit is so important for our children.”
Tori Geriets - age 12, seventh grade. Tori made 23 out of 25 free
throws.
Mia Clark - age 11, fifth grade. Mia also made 23 out of 25.
Tori and Mia had a five free throw shoot-off for the overall "Top
Shooter" award. Tori made all five for the win.
Landen Heinzel - age 13, seventh grade. Landen made 23 out of 25 for
a four-way tie. Landen finished fourth overall.
Tori and Mia both won in their age groups and go forward in the
District National Competition the weekend of March 9th in Iowa City,
Iowa.
