Lee Dowling homecoming show captures art raves

[March 29, 2019]   LINCOLN - The Lincoln Art Institute presented a special one person show at the monthly opening last Thursday evening. Lee Dowling began her art career in Lincoln, traveled the country, and has returned home to receive the accolades of an appreciative community for her artistic talent.

“It has always been my goal to have an art show in my home town,” Lee Dowling said. “The Lincoln Art Institute is a wonderful place, and Moses Pinkerton should be commended for creating it for the community,” she added.

Gallery owner and artist Pinkerton and photographer Mitch Douglas created a beautiful tableau of Dowling’s art on the walls of the Lincoln Art Institute.

Lee Dowling grew up in Lincoln. The first stop on her arc of life was in Jacksonville where she studied art at MacMurray College. “It was my intention to teach after I graduated, but I could not find a job anywhere,” she said. Luck or fate intervened and the school district in Galesburg came calling, asking her to teach art to their junior high students.

She remained there for five years, until the call of an advanced degree drew her to Illinois State University’s renowned graduate fine arts program, where she earned a master’s degree.

Lee has been immersed in creating her unique painting style ever since. She lived in Florida for years where the environment of nature and sea had a profound impact on her painting.  Check out her flowers, birds, and seascapes that are returning themes in her style. These themes are often populated with wonderful figures and portraits, all products of her original concepts.

The Lincoln Art Institute was mobbed Thursday evening by her fans. Many could not leave without owning a Lee Dowling original. Mitch Douglas and Chuck Fricke were two of the proud new owners of Lee’s art.

The Lee Dowling art exhibit will continue until April when the next Logan County Arts show will be unveiled.
