Mount Pulaski is more than a couple hundred miles from
Japan, but the Shawn Mendes-penned song "Lost In Japan"
was the theme of the 2019 MPHS Prom. For those in
attendance at the prom, which was held Saturday at the
American Legion Home Post 447 in Mount Pulaski. The
decorations that included cherry blossom backdrops made
the prom participants feel like they were in the same
time zone as Japan.
The 2019
Prom Sponsors, Janette Cooper and Sarah Cooper,
explained that the students voted on the music-inspired
theme. The "Lost In Japan" theme was present everywhere
from the entryway to the table decorations to the
ceiling.
"The students' tickets
were passports and they presented them at the door to
get stamped before getting lost in Japan," said Janette
Cooper.
The students enjoyed a
dance and DJ until 11 p.m.
The post prom was held
at the MPHS gymnasium from 11:30 p.m. until 6 a.m. This
was the 31st year for post prom. According to the MPHS
website, "Students
had a great time during the event, which included bingo,
inflatable human foosball, inflatable obstacle
course, nine square, inflatable light challenge,
inflatable hungry hippo, hypnotist show, Vegas games, a
magic show, and a lot of guest prizes.

The students also enjoyed pizza, wings, a coffee bar,
drinks, snacks, an ice cream bar, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, and sausage.
This event would not be possible without the continued support and generosity of
multiple individuals, businesses, and civic organizations."
Prior to the prom activities,
the participants took part in the Grand March Saturday afternoon
at the historic Mount Pulaski Courthouse. Master of Ceremonies
Greg Taylor made a return at the microphone and introduced
the participants on what ended up being a beautiful day.
The courthouse always serves as an amazing backdrop for such a
special occasion. This year was no different than years past, as
each of the participants was absolutely stunning.
Sam VanRheeden and
Maggie Anderson were crowned the 2019 Prom King and Queen. The
rest of the prom court included Abigail Fitzpatrick, Morgan May,
Skylar Hayes, Ben Fricke, Logan DeRight and Garrett Skelton.
After the crowning of the new king and queen by 2018 King Ayden
Rule and Queen Abbey Phillips, the participants gathered on
the steps of the courthouse for the annual group photo that
everyone loves.
Much in part due to the lovely
weather and the lovely participants, "Lost In Japan" was a huge
success and a night that students will remember.
