LINCOLN

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office has received a complaint in regards to citizens receiving fraudulent phone calls and voicemails from someone claiming to be from the Social Security Administration. The call then claims to be from the “Federal Crime and Investigation Department.”

Sheriff Mark Landers wants to warn citizens to be diligent in protecting their information from scams. If you receive a phone call from anyone claiming to be a part of the Social Security Administration you can contact their customer service at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or go to a local Social Security Office to verify the legitimacy of the call.

If you are unsure of the legitimacy of any call or request for information, you can contact the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and request to speak with a Deputy to help verify the authenticity.

It is also a good time of year to remain diligent in protecting your information from door-to-door sales. While many reputable businesses rely on door-to-door sales to get their products to customers, there are also scams that go along with them. Many times we find scams target the elders of our communities.

If anyone believes they are the victim of fraudulent door-to-door sales, or wants to verify the legitimacy of the business, please contact the Logan County Sheriff’s Office and seek the assistance of law enforcement.
