LC Men's Basketball Goes 1-1 at IWU Classic

[November 04, 2019]    The Lincoln College Men’s Basketball team spit a pair of games over the weekend against nationally ranked opponents at the highly competitive Indiana Wesleyan University Classic.

 

On Friday, Lincoln faced Indiana University East who entered as the 13th ranked team in the most recent NAIA National Poll. LC took command early going 4-for-12 from beyond the three-point arc to help them take a 51-42 lead into halftime. The Lynx were able to maintain their lead throughout the second half to earn the 103-94 victory.

All five starters reached double-digits in scoring for LC with Darnell Latham Jr. pouring in a team-high 32 points. Junior Laytwan Porter (Rockford) scored 20 points while Trayron Tyler (Rockford) recorded 17. Senior Montez Crumble (Cahokia) and junior Tyrone Wright (St. Louis) were each good for 11.

The Lynx took on the host school from Indiana Wesleyan who started the day as the #4 ranked team in the nation. IWU outpaced the LC in the first half by hitting on 12 of 32 attempts from three-point range. Wesleyan took a 43-34 lead into the halftime break and outscored the Lynx by two in the second half to claim the win 84-73.

Leading scorers for Lincoln against IWU were Darnell Latham Jr. and junior Winslow Martin II (Carbondale) who each scored 15. Tyrone Wright was close behind with 14 points and Wright led LC with seven rebounds.

Lincoln’s run of ranked opponents will continue on November 6th when they travel back to Indiana to take on #10 Indiana University Kokamo.
