To the editor:

As we reflect on the 36th Harvest of Talents for World Hunger events and celebration, we are absolutely filled with thanksgiving for generous hearts, creative minds, hardworking hands, and compassionate volunteers. We are deeply humbled by the continued support for hunger relief from our community, so ~ with deep gratitude on behalf of hungry children around the world, we give you a HUGE HARVEST THANK YOU!!!!!

Thank you for sharing a measure of your time, talents, prayers, encouragement, and resources for the various Harvest projects and events throughout this year and especially on ‘Harvest Day in Lincoln’ (always the fourth Saturday of October) when doors were opened to hundreds of friends, neighbors, and family who shared in fellowship while many and varied talents were turned into 'rice and beans’; non-perishable food items were also accepted for our local food pantry. Every penny counts: this year’s Harvest offering was $100,043.60 and was given to International Disaster Emergency Service, 100% for hunger relief.

[to top of second column in this letter]

Since Harvest of Talents began 36 years ago, there are now seven sister Harvests in three states; our Lincoln area alone has raised $2,440,496.66. Because of many variables, totals from year-to-year cannot be compared, for each Harvest is a success by any measure, having become a multi-generational legacy of hope!

This year, we saw the awareness of hunger issues increase among our youth as well as their participation in hunger relief efforts. THANK YOU Lincoln, Logan County, and central Illinois for being part of a beautiful chain of Blessings ~ Together, we can share hope and be found faithful to Matthew 25:35, “For I was hungry, and you fed me.”

The 37th Harvest has now begun! Don’t grow weary of doing good ~ you’re so good at it, and we are blessed to be a Blessing! X O

Carolyn Neal, Chairperson
Harvest Ministry Team
