Lincoln College Student Tyler Zimmerman Places Top Ten in Worldwide Business Strategy Game
Classmates Excel on Business Major Field Test

 

[October 26, 2019]  LINCOLN - Lincoln College Accelerated Bridge to Education (ABE) student, Tyler Zimmerman, has tied for eighth place in the world in the Business Simulation Game. Out of 2,652 teams from 166 colleges and universities across the globe, Zimmerman excelled against the competition.

Zimmerman spent two weeks tied for first place in the world in the Business Simulation Game before earning the eighth spot in the final week.

The Business Simulation Game is part of Lincoln College’s BUS 413 Strategic Management capstone course, taken in the final semester of the Business Management degree program. Students are required to create and operate a worldwide business venture. Each week, teams are assessed on four measures to determine the best-performing companies worldwide: Overall Score (current year), Earnings Per Share, Return On Average Equity, and Stock Price.

“The simulation game was an interesting way to see how all the pieces of business work together and how key decisions need to be made. Those decisions come to fruition in the game as you compete,” said Zimmerman.

Zimmerman and his Lincoln College ABE classmates also scored in the top 1% in the nation as a group on the Business Major Field Test, which is taken by all graduating seniors in business. Johanna Sneed scored in the top 5% in the nation and Brody Mikel scored in the top seven percent.

Tyler Zimmerman is a full-time firefighter for the Bloomington area, deciding to finish his degree through the Lincoln College Accelerated Bridge to Education (ABE) program. “Education is important to anyone within the fire service field. I decided to complete my bachelor’s degree because the benefit of evening classes one night per week worked well with my responsibilities as a full-time fireman,” said Zimmerman. Tyler Zimmerman will be graduating at the spring 2020 commencement ceremony.

The performance of the Lincoln College students in the Business Simulation Game reflects on the level of instruction students are receiving in the Business Management program, accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education. The ABE program offers 5-week evening hybrid courses that meet one night a week supplemented by online learning in Normal, Peoria, Oglesby, and Lincoln.
