Progress continues to be made on the Deer Creek bridge replacement
on Primm Road. The project is located 1 mile south of Lincoln
Community High School, and the road has been closed since early
April.
Rainy weather in late Spring caused flooding at the project site.
The original bridge was removed, but construction on the new bridge
could not start until the flood waters receded. After that initial
setback with the project, the Contractor has continued to make
steady progress. The weather has been very good for bridge
construction for most of the summer.
The entire area has been re-graded to allow for better water flow.
The piers and abutments have been constructed. And, most of the
riprap has already been placed. Steel beams were placed in early
September.

The Contractor is currently building the forms for the concrete bridge deck. At
this point, we are planning to pour the concrete bridge deck in early October.
We are hoping for continued good weather into the Fall as we finish up the
bridge work. The roadway approaches will be constructed with asphalt. That work
is temperature dependent, and late Fall is not always a good time to place
asphalt.
Logan County submitted numerous funding applications for this project. In 2014,
the project was awarded more than $1.7M from the Illinois Major Bridge Program.
The project was awarded to Freesen, Inc., located in Springfield, Illinois. They
submitted the low bid on the project of $1,921,913. Logan County is using local
property tax funds for our share of the project.
Cooperation and patience is always appreciated during the construction season as
we continue to improve the safety of our roads and bridges. Questions can be
directed to the Logan County Highway Department. Status of all our local
construction projects can be found on the News & Closures page of the Highway
Department website.
