Staff prepare Easter Bags for residents

[April 22, 2020]    At Timber Creek Village Assisted Living in Lincoln, our priority is keeping our residents safe. Because of this, our residents are not permitted to use the communal areas within the facility during this time. However, we are finding fun ways to keep our residents active while practicing safe social distancing.

Hallway Bingo

A few of our activities include Hallway Bingo, Hallway Hungry Hippo, one-on-one art classes and spa days, a daily snack cart, and a traveling vineyard! These activities help to ensure our residents are still participating and receiving the daily interaction they need. We are also hand delivering their meals three times a day! Therefore, if a resident chooses not to participate in some of our activities, we are still socializing with them during these times. Any way we can boost our residents’ spirits and bring a little sunshine into their world is our goal.

Although our residents miss their families and friends, most of our seniors do understand why visitors are not allowed into the building. Our administration has spoken to all of our residents’ families to keep them informed of what is happening during the quarantine.

Through our iPad, called Chatterbox, families can video chat with their loved ones. This helps ease both the residents’ and the family members’ minds to reassure each other that both are doing well. We have had many families call to get on the schedule to use the Chatterbox. We also have had a few families come to the residents’ back doors to blow kisses and just bring a little cheer.

Even though we all have to keep a safe distance, a little interaction goes a long way!

Currently, all of our staff and residents are happy and healthy. We will continue to follow the proper protocol and procedures to ensure the safety of our workers and residents.

In addition to our daily activities, our staff continually monitor our residents multiple times a day to guarantee their health and well-being.

We are asking the community that if anyone would like to adopt a senior and be a pen pal to brighten their day through this time, please reach out to me, Tisha Abner. We could also use craft supplies to keep our residents busy through the quarantine.

I want to thank a few people/ organizations who have really been supportive for us. Logan County Health Department has donated PPE gear, Open Arms Christian Church has supplied meals and cloth masks to our staff on Easter Sunday, and my home office has ensured we have support and everything we need.

I’d also like to thank our residents for being so understanding during this time and their families for giving us and their loved ones the support and love they need to brighten their days.

Finally, I’d especially like to thank my caring and compassionate staff who always show up in a time of need to not only brighten our residents’ days but attend to any care needs they may have.

We are all looking forward to things getting back to a little more normalcy, and we hope to allow visitors back in our buildings soon!
