[December 02, 2020]    There is no denying that this year has been a hard one for local businesses. You might like to hear that a lot of our smaller “mom and pop shops” are still open here because of the great support customers have offered during this pandemic. More than ever, spending our money locally affects all of us.

As we have done in the past LDN has gone around the county taking some pictures to give you some great ideas for that perfect gift for your loved ones and for your own holiday decorating, and maybe a thing or two for your own self-treat.

Though we are still in the midst of controlling the spread of a contagious disease, store owners and managers have shared how you can safely reach them with your Christmas list requests.

There is a new little antique and collectable shop at 1211 Fifth Street called Route 66 Corner Garage. If you have been down Fifth Street you have probably noticed a manikin waving at you. The day we went he was sporting a short sleeve shirt, shorts and wearing a mask.

The shop features old signs, toys, gas and oil cans, coins and much more. And here’s something, unique-license plates made in 1946, 1947 and 1948 from soybeans. Plus, they will have furniture in the near future.

Pictured is worker Kevin Ritchhart, who said that Bill Haak is the owner/manager. The store hours are Wednesday thru Sunday 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. There is a sign on the front door with additional contact information. Be sure to check them out.

Cindy’s Cottage is owned by Cindy Peterman and is located at 533 Woodlawn Road. Her store features Christmas and Home décor, jewelry and clothing, as well as gifts, furniture - Farmhouse and Vintage. She can also be reached thru Facebook and Instagram at Cindy’s Cottage.

Hot Frog Designs is another small locally owned business that is located just down the block from Cindy’s Cottage at 501 Woodlawn. They specialize in personalized shirts, hats bags, decals, photo gifts and awards.

They also have a new laser etching technique that works on most wood, glass, plates and more. Sonja even said that can scan a handwritten recipe from a loved one and etch it on a cutting board. If you can dream it they can probably design it.

Stop in and let them create something special for Christmas.

Neal Tire, downtown Lincoln, is not only a great place for tires but show them off “loud and proud” with super cool rims!!!

Let one of their friendly service advisors help you find the perfect gift. And don’t forget they have batteries, wiper blades and you can always get a gift certificate for service work, like brakes, alignments, shocks and suspension systems.

Big R on Woodlawn Road, Lincoln’s west side has a whole host of great ideas for farm, home and family! They even have great gifts for your pets (including your outside birds)!

Need tools, toys, boots, lawn equipment, clothing, or house wares? They have a great supply of hardware, plumbing and electrical too.

And Beth says if you have cold feet in the winter she has the best slippers for you. Stop in today.

Styles by Robin loves to help you pamper your friends and family with great shampoo and styling supplies by Olaplex and Hempz lotions as well as hairsprays and nail polish.

And, if you can’t decide what to get, just get a gift certificate and let your loved one pick their own.

Abe’s Carmelcorn Shoppe in downtown Lincoln is always a sweet and fun place to shop. While their signature item is still popcorn (in three flavors everyday) you will be amazed at all the home and kitchen décor and accessories along with some of the most incredible soups, sauces, jams, mixes and don’t forget they have everything from jelly bellies to decadent chocolate!

And if you want to ship anything in the store to your loved ones, just give them a call.

P&W Pools feature in-ground and above-ground pools and spas. Now that is something to get excited about. Just close your eyes. Can’t you picture yourself enjoying any one of those? Plus, they have all the chemicals and accessories to go with them. Maybe this Christmas you can get a gift certificate for someone who has a pool or spa or has always dreamed of having one.

Ace is the place with the helpful hardware people, they have a lot of great ideas for gift giving like these grills, fryers, smokers and accessories.

And like a good neighborhood hardware store, they stock a lot of your favorites like tools, ladders, lawn and garden equipment and accessories, bird feeders, as well as small appliances, fix-it hardware and more.

Check them out and don’t forget the stocking stuffers or gift certificates.

Carrie Groves of McEntire’s Appliance is showing off one of her newest refrigerators. This baby is huge and has four doors! The top doors are your regular refrigerator and two below are your freezers. What’s really cool about the two freezers is that they can be set at different temperatures. So if you like your ice cream a little softer then you can just reach in and get it and you don’t have wait…because everyone knows when you want your ice cream you want it NOW!

While you are there you can check out the rest of their appliances. If you are not comfortable coming into the store just call or go online or Facebook.

Lincoln CBD Store is located downtown in the old Beecher Jewelry store on Broadway. This nice little boutique features non-psychoactive cannabidiol products. They come in topical lotions and creams, oil tinctures, water soluble, and gummies. They even have things to help your pets! These are herbal health supplements that may help with things like: inflammation, headaches, pain, anxiety, sleeping and more.

Got questions? Talk to them…they have personal experience.

Sir Renna Tea has tons of great gift ideas! Check out the beautiful Turkish lamps in their window! They have games, kid and crafts books, puzzles, candles, scarves, clothing, fun bags, spa items like soaps and lotions, hundreds of teas, jewelry and more. Oh, hundreds of great stocking stuffers items too.

Julie Mason has some beautiful gifts for the hard-to-buy-for people on your list, from floral arrangements to home decorations. Located on the square in Mount Pulaski, Jules Flower Shop is the place to find the right present.

Julie will have limited hours at the shop: Mon - Wed 9 a.m. – 12 p.m., but will check messages on a regular basis. So, if she doesn’t happen to be there when you need her, leave a message and she’ll get back to you right away.

Whether you want a fresh cup of coffee or a bag of sugar, Market on the Hill in Mount Pulaski is there to help with your needs. Emily Rutledge is standing next to a display in the middle of the store showing off some wonderful “Market on the Hill” products available.

Operators Rutledge or Sam Brown are keeping hours Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

New to the Market are lunch specials. Be sure to go by or check their Facebook page to see what they are offering.

The above represents a few or our great businesses ready to continue serving you. Be sure to shop all your favorites this season.
