New Rules Announced For the 2021 Cover Crop Premium Discount Program

[December 08, 2020]    The Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) will open the second year of the Fall Covers for Spring Savings Program with an online application that will be available online beginning December 15, 2020 and running through January 15, 2020 or until the funds are depleted. It is a first come/first serve program with a $250,000 funding allotment.

For the 2021 Cover Crop Premium Discount Program applicants are required to certify their cover crops through their local Farm Service Agency (FSA) county office at their local USDA Service Center before applying.

When completing the application to receive the cover crop premium discount, producers will need to attach their FSA-578 (Report of Commodities - Farm & Tract Detail Listing form) to their application.

The program is only applicable for those with federal crop insurance administered by the United States Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency (RMA). .
