Woodworker Darrell Wibben and the first of his owl creations in Kickapoo Creek Park, a carved barred owl sits along the road in the lower part of the park. Several barred owls are frequently seen in the park. They are noted for their iconic hoot call.

Only park manager Joe Funk could find this unusual woodpecker duplex. Get too close to it and the occupant will let you know that your presence is not appreciated. It’s fun to talk to Joe and learn of the unusual flora and fauna he finds.

Darrell created this screech owl image in a stump near the playground.

Darrell created this homage to Kickapoo Indian Chief Kennekuk. “I thought it would be appropriate to have a statute to the chief in his namesake park,” said Darrell.

Darrell and park manager Joe Funk stand alongside the Chief. Funk finds dead trees and stumps for Darrell to turn into park art. No trees were harmed in the creation of Darrell’s sculptures.

A work in progress.

Woodworker Darrell Wibben puts the finishing touches on his latest creation, a bald eagle, in Kickapoo Creek Park.

Perfection in wood, a proud bald eagle.
