Lincoln Heritage Museum Opens Two New Exhibits
“Think Anew and Act Anew: U.S. Presidents and Vision” and “Defy the Odds” Featured

The Lincoln Heritage Museum at Lincoln College has two new exhibits scheduled to open this month. The first new exhibit, “Think Anew and Act Anew: U.S. Presidents and Vision” includes quotes from sixteen presidents from George Washington through Donald Trump, complete with an original letter or document from each of those executives. The second exhibit, “Defy the Odds” celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Nineteenth Amendment of the United States Constitution taking effect, granting women the right to vote.

The exhibits are scheduled to open to the public February 12 with a special preview for Lincoln Heritage Museum donors and contributors on February 6.

“The exhibit “Think Anew and Act Anew: U.S. Presidents and Vision” will consistent of copyright-free images of sixteen presidents, all courtesy of the Library of Congress. The images will be placed next to the respective vision quote of that president. “There will be letters and documents from every president and many of the first ladies,” said Anne Moseley, Director and Curator of the Lincoln Heritage Museum.

The second exhibit “Defy the Odds” showcases Illinois in 1919 becoming first state east of the Mississippi River to grant women the right to vote for president, according to the Illinois State Archives. Items to be displayed in this exhibit include a tea set owned by Mary Lincoln, a Civil War medical kit, attire women wore during the 1860s, a diary written by Olivia Conkling discussing the work of the Illinois Temperance Movement, 1920s presidential ticket and a 1938 advertisement from Springfield Marine Bank showcasing “women’s trusts benefits.”

“Both exhibits showcase the vision of the country through the lives of Americans who actively helped to mold the country to what is today and help us determine what our vision is for the future.” stated Moseley.

The two exhibits will continue to be open to the public until the end of December 2020.
