WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Darin LaHood (R-IL) today voted
against two pieces of legislation, H.R. 5543—Prohibition of Funds
Against Iran and H.R. 2456—2002 AUMF Repeal, that will restrain
President Trump’s inherent authority to protect Americans. Following
the vote, Rep. LaHood released the below statement:
“President Trump acted decisively to take out Qasem Soleimani, a
known terrorist responsible for the death of over 600 Americans who
was actively working to coordinate further attacks on Americans.
Instead of commending his actions, Democrats are actively seeking to
undermine his inherent ability to keep Americans safe.

“We can have serious debates about repealing the 2002 AUMF, but House Democrats
rushed today’s legislation to the floor only to undermine the President and
their actions will further embolden Iran’s terror regime. After hearing from
intelligence officials, I am confident the President’s actions were warranted
and justified. Democrats should stop undermining the Commander in Chief’s
ability to keep Americans at home and abroad safe and focus on working to move
our country forward.”
