Gary E. “Crapper” Hughes

[July 03, 2020]  LINCOLN - Gary E. “Crapper” Hughes, 75, of Lincoln went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Service:  A private family service will be held at Lincoln Christian Church at a later date.

Gary E. “Crapper” Hughes, 75, of Lincoln went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Gary was born on May 27, 1945 in Painesville, OH; son of Walter G. and Marian E. (Smith) Hughes. He married Lindsay M. Yeates on May 21, 1967 in Lincoln. She survives him.

Also surviving Gary is his mother; his children: John (Lea) Hughes of Lincoln and Amy (Jeffrey) Hyde of Lincoln, one brother: David (Dawn) Hughes of Indiana; three grandchildren: Kayla Hyde of Lincoln, Jake (Caitlin) Hyde of Atlanta and Elaine Marie Hyde; one grand dog: Tucker Hughes and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father.

Gary proudly served in the United States Navy from 1966-1972. He was a member of the VFW in Lincoln. He was a member of Lincoln Christian Church. Gary never knew a stranger, he had an infectious laugh that could brighten the whole room.

He had the heart of a faithful servant, it did not matter who it was for or what it was, if someone needed help Gary was there to lend a hand.

A private family service will be held at Lincoln Christian Church at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gary’s name to the Lincoln Christian Church 10,000 Reasons Campaign, and mailed to the church, 204 N. McLean Street Lincoln, IL 62656.

Services are entrusted to Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.
