State Police,

WHAT: Two Unit Vehicle Crash with Injury
WHERE: I-55 Southbound at Milepost 115, Logan County
WHEN: July 12, 2020 at 5:57 p.m.
VEHICLE(s):
Unit 1- 2013 White Freightliner
Unit 2 – 2017 White Kia
DRIVER: Unit 1 – Clifton L. Cunningham, 41-year-old male of
Florissant, MO
Unit 2- Sarah L. Lucas, 42-year-old female of Peoria, IL
(Transported to an area hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries)
PASSENGER: Unit 2- Lon M. Lucas, 41-year-old-male of Peoria,
IL

PRELIMINARY: A preliminary investigation indicates the following
occurred: Unit 1 was traveling southbound on I-55 at the above location in the
right lane. For unknown reasons, the rear passenger tire malfunctioned and came
off the unit 1 vehicle. The tire traveled across all southbound lanes, crossed
the center median and struck the driver’s side of the unit 2 vehicle which was
traveling northbound in the left lane at the same location. The impact caused
the unit 2 vehicle to travel left off the roadway, cross through the center
median and all southbound lanes of traffic where it finally came to rest facing
northbound on the left, southbound shoulder. The Unit 2 driver was transported
to a local area hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
CHARGES: Pending investigation.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
