The water main project, which kicked off last month in Lincoln,
continues with water main installation on 19th Street. To complete
this work at the intersection of 19th and Grand Avenue, the roadway
will be closed on Monday, July 27, 2020. The roadway will also be
closed at 19th and Union Street on Tuesday, July 28, 2020. Weather
permitting, both intersection closures are anticipated to be
reopened by the end of each workday.
Drivers should use caution, obey traffic signs and follow detour
routes. It is recommended that drivers avoid this area if at all
possible.
Illinois American Water thanks customers and motorists for their
cooperation as work is completed. Motorists are reminded to obey
speed limits, focus on the road and refrain from cell phone use
while traveling through construction zones. ‘
Gabe Bowden, operations superintendent for the Lincoln District
thanks the public for their assistance with avoiding the
construction site. He said, “The safety of our employees,
contractors and customers is our top priority. We understand the
closure of this street may be a temporary inconvenience, but it
allows for the safety of all involved and that’s most important. We
thank the community for understanding.”
As a part of this project, Illinois American Water is investing
approximately $500,000 to replace over 3,100 feet of water main in
Lincoln’s water system.

The work includes two projects with one occurring on 19th Street from Palmer
Avenue to Union Street. The other project is occurring on Jefferson Street from
Short 11th Street to Woodlawn Road.
Much of the water main installed will be increased in size to support water flow
and pressure for continued water quality and fire protection.
