Lincoln, Ill. (July 28, 2020) — Effective immediately, Illinois
American Water has issued a boil water order for all customers in
the company’s Lincoln District due to technical issues at the water
treatment plant.
All customers in the company’s Lincoln District should bring their
tap water to a rolling boil for five minutes before using water for
drinking or cooking. Water is OK for bathing, washing, or other
common uses.
The boil order is expected to remain in effect for approximately 36
hours while a series of water quality tests are run throughout the
Lincoln District water system.

The boil order is being issued in accordance with Illinois EPA regulations.
Anytime water pressure drops below 20 pounds per square inch in any part of a
community water system, a boil order must be issued as a precaution to protect
customers.
“We appreciate your understanding and patience,” said Gabriel Bowden, Operations
Superintendent, Lincoln
District.
