[June 04, 2020]  Three Lincoln Community High School seniors have been selected as new scholarship recipients from the Iva Mae Blaum Trust.

Brooke Kitner, Brooke Montcalm and Claire Hill will all begin their nursing studies this fall.

Brooke Kitner will be a student-athlete at Indiana University Kokomo this fall. Currently she is a nurse technician at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital and eventually wants to care for patients in an emergency department. Brooke is the daughter of Jake and Kenda Kitner.

Brooke Montcalm will begin her studies at Heartland Community College and plans to transfer to ISU’s Mennonite School of Nursing. She is the daughter of Rich and Ann Montcalm. Montcalm is employed as a CNA at The Christian Village, and as a pharmacy tech at Walgreens.

Claire Hill is the daughter of Laurin and Sheri Hill and has chosen to study at Bradley University in Peoria. Her goal is to pursue a masters in nursing after completing her BSN degree, and serve others as a nurse practitioner.

The scholarship, given in memory of Arthur B. Blaum and Iva Mae Blaum, is earmarked for Logan County students who are majoring in nursing or agriculture. It may be renewed up to eight undergraduate semesters, as long as the student maintains a B cumulative grade point average and remains committed to his or her initial field of study.

Iva Mae Blaum was a graduate of Deaconess Hospital of Lincoln and retired from Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in 1985 after 46 years of service as a surgery supervisor and director of nursing. Her husband was a lifelong farmer in the New Holland area.

Mrs. Blaum passed in August 2015 and the first scholarship was presented in 2016. Since then Kamryn Aylesworth, Lukas Aylesworth, Cierra Crowell, Jacob Kirgan, Maggie Anderson, Molly Schempp and Madison Thomas have received scholarships for agriculture. Emma O’Donoghue, Grace Skelton and Lauren Turner have received scholarships to study nursing. Per the terms of Mrs. Blaum’s will, the trust should continue to award scholarships until 2035.

State Bank of Lincoln is the trustee of the Iva Mae Blaum Trust. Heartland Bank and Trust Company provides wealth management and trust administration services on behalf of the State Bank of Lincoln.
