Lincoln Public Library District announces summer reading program

Summer Reading is right around the corner at Lincoln Public Library District! This summer as we kick off the 2020 Summer Reading Program, “DIG DEEPER: Read, Investigate, Discover”, we hope to inspire participants to investigate, discover, and learn about new places, people, animals, and things. This year’s summer reading will take on a slightly different format: DIGITAL!

Beginning June 8, start by registering at http://lincolnpubliclibrary.readsquared.com or download the READsquared app on your devices, then register yourself, family, or group. Don’t have access to an electronic device, just call the library at 217-732-5732 and someone will assist you with registration.

The Lincoln Public Library summer reading program is offered to children and teens, ages 6 months through senior high school. Dig Deeper registration opens on June 8 and runs through July. This year participants will track reading progress either online or in book logs.

Depending on their age group, they will keep track of the number of books that are read to them or the number of minutes they read. Participants will win weekly prizes for completing reading goals, completing missions, and participating in online events.

Children ages 6 months through 5th grade who meet their final reading goal will earn a summer reading program t-shirt and teens will be eligible for a drawing for a loot box.

Each week the library will provide Discovery Kits to program participant’s ages 4 years through 5th grade, packed with crafts and fun.

Library activities and events look different this year, but there are still plenty of ways to Dig Deeper into summer at the library. The library will offer virtual events, online story times, and web demos throughout the summer on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, accessible on our webpage or through the READsquared app.

Although library activities will look different this summer, our team is working hard planning and putting together special weekly activities to pass the hot summer days and to help promote the love of reading. The library is currently offering curbside pickup for library materials available only from our library. Call to make library material requests and reserve a pickup date and time.
