Dear Seth Goodman
A letter to our former Mayor

Dear Seth Goodman;
As members of this community we too received the sad news of your
resignation on Friday. We were shocked, but not surprised.
For three-plus years we have watched as you and others who serve
this community put forth their best to make this a good place, a
better place for people to live. No one can imagine the time and
effort required, while the role of mayor is much less powerful than
most people know, you used your influence for the good of the
community and to the best of your ability. Some of the decisions you
had to make were on tough and controversial subjects. You
consistently chose to do what you felt was right for our town and
would benefit the community financially.
The truth that you and the aldermen live with is that the right
decisions are not always popular with everyone. Together you
exercised strength of character and faced the results of those
decisions during trying times.

When you ran for office, what Lincoln needed most was a strong advocate for the
town, and especially for the downtown area. Today the downtown area seems
stronger and more vital than anytime in the past 30+ years. Your words and
actions of encouragement have brought Lincoln through hard times and difficult
issues. Perhaps what we needed most was someone who really believed in this town
and would cheer us on. In that you have truly excelled, and even though you are
now out of office, we are sure you will continue to cheer us on in the future.
Thank you for your service, your courage and for sharing your spirit.
