Atlanta Public Library/Museum Announce Live Streaming Event with Musician Chris Vallillo

[June 29, 2020]     The Atlanta Public Library and Museum are thrilled to welcome back Award-winning musician and folklorist Chris Vallillo for a live streamed performance at 7:00PM on Friday, July 10, 2020.

Chris has appeared twice to great acclaim in the Library’s Loft at Union Hall, and this concert offers a timely look at music of the Civil Rights Movement. Sponsored by Illinois Humanities through its Road Scholars program, the event will be accessible on the Library’s website - www.atlantapld.org or on the Atlanta Public Library and Museum Facebook page.

While the COVID-19 outbreak has prohibited the Library from offering its regular dinner programs at the Palms Grill, we are pleased to announce that The Grill will be providing its famous fried chicken dinner (with mashed potatoes and green beans) for pick-up to enjoy while watching Chris’s performance in the comfort of home.

Just call the Palms Grill at 217-648-2233 or 217-648-5077 by Wednesday, July 8 to place an order. Dinners may be picked up at the Grill beginning at 5:30PM on July 10.

The Civil Rights Movement has been described as one of the greatest singing movements this country has experienced. From We Shall Overcome to This Little Light of Mine, music played a vital role in that historic struggle both as an inspirational rallying point and as a way to spread the message of equality and justice.

 The live-streamed event features pivotal songs from the music that inspired and sustained this landmark movement. Intermixed with the music, Vallillo also will share first-hand accounts and historic images of the historic struggle and discusses the impact of music on our nation’s most important social cause.
