[March 17, 2020]  ATLANTA - Cheryl A. Scales, 73, passed away at 10:02 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2020, surrounded by her loving family at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Graveside Service: Friday, March 6, 2020, at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Cemetery in Lincoln

Obituary

Cheryl A. Scales, 73, passed away at 10:02 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2020, surrounded by her loving family at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Graveside Services for Cheryl will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020, at 1:30 p.m. at Zion Cemetery in Lincoln. Burial will immediately follow.

Cheryl Ann McBenge was born August 17, 1946, the daughter of Theodore and Frances Gandt McBenge. She was united in marriage with James L. Scales, Sr. on Oct. 30, 1965. He survives.

Cheryl is also survived by their children: Angela A. (Marvin) Johnson and James L. (Laura) Scales, Jr.; three grandchildren: Kallee Johnson, Craig Roberts, and Kelsey Hagerman; two great-grandchildren: Cain Roberts and Tripp Roberts; one sister: Esther Denney; 2 brothers: Cliff McBenge and Bill McBenge; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Director

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Frank McBenge.

Cheryl was a 1965 graduate of Lincoln High School and was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. She worked at the Atlanta Grade School as a cook for nearly 25 years.

Cheryl enjoyed baking and canning vegetables from their garden, making jams and jellies, and tending to her flowers.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.
