Before the State ordered COVID-19 shut down of the Illinois education system, Heartland Community College hosted an open house to talk with the community about its education opportunities in Lincoln.

While much of the information presented on that day has been temporarily altered, the college is still offering excellent programs for the long-range future and online education for the immediate future.

[March 21, 2020]  Members of the public were invited to the Lincoln campus of Heartland Community College for an open house on March 5th. The campus, located at 2201 Woodlawn Road, offers a variety of courses in several disciplines to local students. Prospective students were invited to gather information, speak with administrators, and enjoy some light refreshments.

The open house provided information on the following programs being offered at the Lincoln Campus of Heartland:

Registration for summer courses begins April 7th. The Summer 2020 schedule is already available on the Heartland website. Summer courses offered at the Lincoln campus include oral communication courses, statistics courses, and multiple levels of algebra courses.

The schedule for upcoming Fall courses is also available for prospective students to view, although registration has not yet opened. This fall, courses will be available for oral communications, writing and humanities courses, several levels of algebra, a course on religion, a sociology course, and a course on life success. Both certified nursing assistant lectures and labs will also be offered.

There are a number of different health services programs and courses offered at the Lincoln Campus. These courses include classes for various technicians, dental positions, veterinary technicians, phlebotomists, medical assistants, therapy assistants, and various nursing degrees. There is still time for applicants for the medical assistant (applications are open through May 1st) and physical therapy assistant programs (application process begins April 1st). For more information on these courses at the campus, contact Jennifer O’Connor, Dean of Health Sciences, or Kelly Pyle, Associate Dean.

Classes will also start in the fall for potential truck drivers. The Truck Driver Training course teaches potential drivers over 160 credit hours in order to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License. The first week covers the CDL Learner’s Permit, and the remaining three weeks are behind the wheel training. Classes start in Lincoln in October.

Registration has also begun for High School Equivalency classes. These courses are tuition-free, and are offered through the school’s Adult Education program. Classes meet at two different times per day, Monday through Thursday. Upcoming registration dates are March 17th, 24th, and 31st.

All counseling is offered to any student on any campus in complete confidentiality. Additionally, therapy dogs visit the campus several times a semester. For more information on counseling services offered by the college, contact Camille Springer, a licensed counselor working with Heartland.

Additionally, Heartland will be offering a few classes for those looking to continue their education one class period at a time. On March 30th, there will be a class on creating social media strategies for business. On April 22nd, there will be a class on retirement planning. On April 27th, there will be a class on creative problem solving strategies; and starting April 28th, there will be a three-class period course on expressive art.
