Heartland Community College Commencement set for virtual viewing on May 15

 

[May 12, 2020]    Heartland Community College’s 28th annual commencement will be held virtually on Friday, May 15, 2020 at 6:30 p.m., with viewing of the celebration on YouTube and Facebook Live.

The ceremony will recognize those graduating with associate degrees and certificates as well as students from the Heartland Academy for Learning Opportunities (HALO) and Adult Education programs.

Speaking will be Heartland President Keith Cornille, Board of Trustees Vice Chair Jeff Flessner, and a Heartland student speaker.

Nicci Van Dyke selected as student speaker

Nicci Van Dyke will represent the Class of 2020 as the Student Commencement Speaker. She served as Student Trustee in Heartland’s Student Government Association for the 2019-2020 academic year. Nicci also played on the Heartland Hawks Softball team her freshman year.

After graduating with her Associates in Arts, she plans to transfer to Northern Georgia University to major in Special Education.

2020 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients Richard Casper and Dr. Seshanand Rao

Heartland alums Richard Casper and Dr. Seshanand Rao will both be recognized during the virtual ceremony as recipients of the College’s 2020 Distinguished Alumni Award. Casper and Rao are the twelfth and thirteenth Heartland alumni to receive of the award, which recognizes individual career achievements and positive community impact while exhibiting the College’s values.

2020 Outstanding Faculty Award recipients Dr. Wayne Bass and Dr. Janet Titus

Dr. Wayne Bass and Dr. Janet Titus will be recognized as Outstanding Faculty.

The Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Award is presented to Dr. Wayne Bass, professor of humanities and religious studies.

The Outstanding Part-Time Faculty Award is presented to Dr. Janet Titus, professor of psychology.
