Becca Heitzig finished in second place Saturday, October 31, 2020 at the IHSA Class 2A Cross Country Sectionals in Olney. The freshman has had a spectacular season and finished on Saturday with a time of 18:23.90.

"This is absolutely a huge deal," said Coach Andrew Hite of Heitzig's accomplishment. And as far as the teams' successes this season, Hite was very proud. "I wish I could find the records, but I can say that it is not normal for either the boys or the girls to advance as a team. This year we had both. Also, we strung together several wins at our dual and triangular meets with area schools. We fared well at the Apollo Conference Meet, and we had Becca Heitzig, Reese McCuan, and Brenden Heitzig earn all-conference honors."

At Saturday's Sectional meet Junior Reese McCuan finished in 20th place with a time of 20:03.72.

For the boys, Sophomore Brenden Heitzig finished in 36th place with a time of 16:57.16. Junior Garrett Slack finished in 52nd place with a time of 17:19.41.

"This really was a great season, and it will be etched into the memories of our athletes for many years," said Hite. "It was a privilege to be part of this team."

*Note: - While the IHSA Cross Country season ended with Sectionals, there is an "unofficial" state meet this weekend hosted by ShaZam Racing and being held at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe.

Reese McCuan, Becca Heitzig, Hattie Mourning and Brenden Heitzig were all invited to the 2020 XC Championships.
