Illinoisans overwhelmingly rejected the graduated income tax
amendment – Gov. Pritzker's so-called "fair tax." Jared Carl,
president of the Illinois Business Alliance, issued the following
statement:
"Gov. Pritzker should take the defeat of the so-called 'fair tax' as
a strong rebuke of his policies and his vision for Illinois. Voters
sent a clear message that it's fundamentally unfair to increase
taxes on small businesses to pay for the problems caused by years of
failure by the state government.
"We urge the governor to heed the call of voters to fix the state's
finances without putting a greater burden on the middle class and
business owners. Voters won't send more money to corrupt and
dysfunctional Springfield.

It's time for Springfield to enact meaningful pension, spending, and property
tax reform. It's time for the governor to end the unnecessary economic shutdown
and immediately cease his arbitrary 'mitigation' efforts. It's time to allow
business owners to resume full operations and put people back to work."
