URGENT MESSAGE: Lincoln College Warns of Malicious Email Scam
Scammer Creates Job Postings on Indeed Job Site

Lincoln College is warning the public to be on alert for an email scam primarily targeting individuals seeking employment at the institution.

Lincoln College received a call Friday from a community member following up on a series of email exchanges that appeared to be from President David Gerlach. The emails offered a position of employment as the president’s personal assistant. The sender requested the individual deposit money into her personal bank account to pay bills for the president, including payments to a foster home. The emails advised the recipient she would receive weekly income and requested a returned copy of the deposit receipts.

All emails from this malicious attempt appear to come from the name, “David Gerlach” at the email D.Gerlach@
presidency.com.  This is not a legitimate email for President Gerlach.

During each attempt to gain personal identifiable information from the community member, the sender claims to be the Lincoln College President out of the country on travel.

After a thorough investigation, it appears the scammer created an account on the popular job listing site, Indeed, to post fraudulent employment opportunities. Many applicants applied to the open positions, though the college had no knowledge of the postings.

After working closely with a representative from Indeed, Lincoln College was able to get the job postings removed from the site. Unfortunately, the college is unable to obtain records from Indeed of individuals who may have been scammed.

The public is reminded that Lincoln College posts all employment opportunities at https://lincolncollegejobs
.peopleadmin.com/.  Individuals who receive fraudulent emails can file a complaint through the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.IC3.gov. 

“It is unfortunate that this malicious attempt to gain personal information would be done using my name and Lincoln College affiliation. We hope the community stays alert and does not respond to unsolicited requests for personal information from email addresses you do not know,” said Gerlach.
