On this Veteran's Day, Lincoln College bestowed on alumnus William
"Bill" Gossett their highest honor, an Honorary Doctoral Degree of
Letters for his service to the nation and his continuing service to
Lincoln College.
President Gerlach presided over the forty five minute ceremony,
recalling the military service of Gossett and his constant presence
with the students, the faculty and staff in the affairs of Lincoln
College. When something was happening at Lincoln College, Gerlach
said glowingly, Bill and Jean Gossett were there.
Gerlach said that Gossett's father was a Lincoln College alum as
well as a board member, and that Bill Gossett had been a highly
regarded businessman in Lincoln, along with his ever present wife
and partner Jean. Gerlach spoke of Gossett's contributions to this
community including his continued hosting of Viewpoint and Swing,
radio shows on WLCN.
Lincoln College Board Chairman Susan Hoblit was Gossett's sponsor
for this honorary degree and spoke of his service and contribution
to the affairs of the college.
Bill Gossett, 97, spoke of his involvement with the community, his
experiences in World War II, his life with Jean and their business
adventures. Most of all he cherished his experiences with Lincoln
College and was proud of his title as Lincoln College Board
Emeritus.
Gossett's own great grandchildren hosted the processional and the
recessional of the flag for this ceremony. Father Christopher
Simpson of Trinity Episcopal gave both the opening prayer and
benediction.

Since this was a COVID safe ceremony, the crowds of admirers waited
outside to honor Bill Gossett in their vehicles, and at the
appropriate moment honked their horns to give praise and admiration
for this Lincoln College honoree.
Doors were held open
so the Gossetts could hear the horns honking.
