Obituary

William R. Howerton, 85, of Lincoln, passed away at 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation was held at Peasley Funeral Home on Monday, October 12, 2020,

A Memorial Service was held at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Mr. Michael Mallick officiating. Military Rites will follow, accorded by American Legion Post #263.

Cremation Rites have been accorded.

William Ray Howerton was born January 14, 1935, in Lincoln, the son of Orville R. and Gladys Schmitgen Howerton. He was united in marriage with Marian M. Overbey in Atkins, SC, on Aug. 29, 1958. She survives.

William is also survived by their children: Angela (Chug) Hubrich and Gary (Angie) Howerton; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Chuck) Lacy, Michael (Charlene) McKinney, Jacob Howerton, Jessica (Jason) Finney, and Jaclyn Howerton; three great-grandchildren: Ty Lacy, Talan McKinney, and Kaylee McKinney; and one brother: Frank (Pat) Howerton.

Funeral Director

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Lois Comstock and Betty Lucille Smith.

William was a 1954 graduate of Lincoln Community High School. He retired from the Weyerhauser box factory in Lincoln. He was a member and former president of the Railsplitter Antique Car Club and a member and former deacon of the Southern Baptist Church of Lincoln. He loved woodworking and spending time in his workshop building things, especially for his grandchildren; and also spent time remodeling houses.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.

Final arrangements are entrusted with Peasley Funeral Home of Lincoln.
