sharing Ruben for
nearly two decades. Chuck passed away unexpectedly on
August 23, 2020 and
will be sorely missed by the many who knew and counted
on him for some time. |

LINCOLN
- At the Regular Logan County Board on Tuesday, October 20th, board
member Annette Welch presented the late Charles Ruben’s family with
a plaque recognizing his many years of service to the board.

 In 2002, Ruben was encouraged to continue his many
years of public service as a member of the Logan County Board. He
was elected to represent District 1 and sworn in December 2002.
Dale Voyles, who was then chairman, immediately recognized Mr.
Ruben’s vast talents, particularly in financial matters. Voyles
appointed Ruben Finance Committee Chairman during a time of
municipal distress.
After assessing assets and liabilities in terms of economics, as
well as human needs, Ruben saw the county through several
challenging years.
Ruben recognized that economic development is a far better
alternative than cutting budgets and services. He soon become a
champion of economic initiatives resulting in advances in our
agricultural, manufacturing, retail, service, utility, and
governmental-related sectors.
A lifelong advocate for education, Ruben served as a school board
member at one point. Later, he represented the county board to the
Regional Office of Education.
Ruben will also be fondly remembered by the board for some of the
idiosyncrasies that made him such a delightful person to associate
with. The board will retain fond memories of Ruben’s love of
firearms and less loveable attitude toward farm cats. Other memories
of Ruben are sporting untucked flannel shirts before they became
“high fashion” and his occasional “donations” to Las Vegas. Even his
“pen-clicking” that accompanied the intensity of an issue will be
fondly remembered.

Beyond Ruben’s humorous traits was a passion for good government.
This passion was only exceeded by the love, affection, and admiration he held
for his family.
For many years, Ruben was looked up to as a leader of the board.
In 2016, Ruben agreed to formally serve as board chairman, which he did in a
manner that set an example for leadership at all levels.
The Logan County Board commemorates the nearly two decades of service Ruben gave
to 30,000 fellow citizens. He will be remembered for the wisdom and kindness
with which he treated his fellow members and county employees. Most of all, the
board thanks the entire Ruben family for sharing their patriarch since 2002.
The board then approved a resolution recognizing Chuck Ruben for his years of
service.
