Controversial issues:
As a community we need to be able to talk openly about matters that affect the quality of our lives. The most effective and least offensive manner to get your point across is to stick to the issue and refrain from commenting on another person's opinion. Letters that deviate from focusing on the issue may be rejected or edited and marked as such.

Five reasons to vote yes to the Fair Tax

To the editor:

Here are five good reasons for those of us in Logan County to vote "yes" on the first issue on our ballot - the Fair Tax.

1. The Fair Tax would produce enough new revenue to reduce the need for costly state borrowing.

2. The Fair Tax would move money from Chicago to the rest of the state.

3. The Fair Tax would not reduce our retirement income.

[to top of second column in this letter]

4. The Fair Tax would remove the need for other tax increases, e.g., property tax increases.

5. Only three percent of Illinois citizens, the ones making more than $250,000, would have to pay the Fair Tax.
