[September 01, 2020]    The PGA Tour added another event in the United States this fall, announcing Monday that the ZOZO Championship, set to be played in Japan this October, will now be held at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

The tour expects that the second-year event will be moved just for 2020. The change was made due to "unprecedented challenges" and "unique circumstances," per a tour press release, apparently referring to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is the second PGA Tour event to be moved from the Far East to the western half of the United States. Earlier in August, it was announced that the CJ Cup, the fifth event on the 2020-21 schedule, was being moved from South Korea to Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas.

The ZOZO Championship, the sixth event of the new season's schedule, was won by Tiger Woods last year.

The ZOZO Championship @ Sherwood, as it will be known in 2020, will be one of three events in the western United States in October. The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open will take place at TPC Summerlin at Las Vegas on Oct. 8-11 leading into the CJ Cup in Las Vegas. The ZOZO Championship will be contested just outside of Los Angeles from Oct. 22-25.

The event will feature 78 players, including the leading players from the 2019-20 FedEx Cup points list, players designated by the Japan Tour Golf Organization and sponsors' exemptions. The tournament will carry an $8 million purse.

Sherwood Country Club has hosted a number of PGA Tour-sanctioned events, including the former Greg Norman Shark Shootout, an event on the Champions Tour and the World Challenge hosted by Woods.
