Congressman Darin LaHood (R-IL) joined Quincy and Adams County Leaders this morning to thank law enforcement on the 19th Anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, sign Heritage Action’s Police Pledge, and announce his support for the “David Dorn Back the Blue Act.”

The “David Dorn Back the Blue Act,” introduced by Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley, would authorize the U.S. Department of Justice to raise salaries of state and local police departments, except in cities that elect to defund law enforcement. By signing the "Police Pledge," Rep. LaHood has committed his opposition to any bill, resolution, or movement that seeks to “Defund the Police.”

“As a federal prosecutor, I spent countless hours with law enforcement officials who do heroic work, day-in-and-day-out, to protect and serve our communities in central and west-central Illinois,” said Rep. LaHood. “It’s disappointing that some politicians and big-city mayors have sought to undermine the ability of our law enforcement to protect and serve in recent months.

"I am proud to commit my support for police officers because I see firsthand the sacrifices the men and women who button up the blue uniform make to keep Illinoisans safe. To Illinois police officers: I support you and will always have your back in Congress.”

Text of the Police Pledge can be read below:

“As a lawful society—free from mob rule and violent insurrection—is not possible without Law Enforcement

Police Officers have chosen a noble profession. They dedicate their lives to upholding the law and protecting the sacred rights of their fellow citizens. As a profession, they deserve support and respect.

I stand with America’s Police and pledge to oppose any bill, resolution, or movement to “Defund the Police.”

Signed,”

[Congressman Darin LaHood]
