Monday evening, Lincoln Aldermen heard from a team for the Illinois
Department of Juvenile Justice. The group including Director Heidi
Miller announced that the IDJJ will be moving into four of the
cottages on the LDC campus, plus building one additional building.
The cottages utilized will be along State Street on the southwest
corner of the LDC property as well as on the opposite side of State
Street to the east and north.
The IDJJ will utilize the property as a minimum to medium security
retention facility for youth ages 13 years old to 21 with priority
given to those who originate from Central Illinois and those who are
on the younger end of the scale.

It is anticipated that it will be approximately two years before the group is
ready to move youth into the facility and about one year before they begin
hiring staff. There will be an estimated 50 employees at the facility, but
priority will be given first to those who seek transfers from other locations.
Lincoln Daily News will offer a more detailed report on this topic in its
Wednesday edition.
