Lady Toppers come from behind to defeat Riverton 43-40

The Mount Pulaski girls basketball team opened their 2021 season on Monday night at the Ed Butkovich Gymnasium. The Lady Toppers came from behind to defeat Riverton 43-40.

Alexis Wade led Mount Pulaski with 20 points. Hailee Daigh hit double-figures with 10 points for the Lady Toppers.

First-year head coach Ryan McVickers was very proud of his team following the win, “I was very pleased with our effort and intensity tonight,” said McVickers. “It would’ve been easy to get discouraged in the first half when shots weren’t falling. We battled and worked hard on defense. We trailed by seven points after the third quarter but never quit. We outscored Riverton 20-10 in the fourth quarter to win 43-40.”

In the JV contest Riverton edged out Mount Pulaski 32-28. Mackenzi Chandler led Mount Pulaski with 9 points.

The Lady Toppers will play at Clinton on Thursday night. The JV game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Varsity will follow.
